A quick bring up to date of whats been happening recently ![]() Jack Spicer - a brilliant ride at Fowlmead in WW2 (Library picture)
Bad weather which has deterred me from taking pictures, being busy and being ill have all combined to result in me not keeping this site up to date for a couple of weeks. The London Cyclo-Cross league rolls on with continuing good results for Youth riders Jack Finch, Jack Spicer and Matthew Gater. Jack Finch has extended his lead in the Series with a win at Penshurst a fortnight ago and second whilst somewhat under the weather at Hog Hill last weekend. Jack Spicer has maintained his recent good form with two third places in the same events, whilst Matt Gater has had a spell out of racing whilst he recovered from a chest infection, only returning at Hog Hill, where he punctured, and in yesterdays South East Championships (At Foxhall Stadium, Ipswich) where he placed seventh. In the same event, Jack Finch narrowly missed out on a medal when Harry Franklin (VC Londres) "edged" him out in the sprint for third place. Jacks form has been down a bit of late as he too has been ill, but it seems to be returning nicely. Best performance recently belongs to Jack Spicer who was fourth overall in yesterdays Winter Warmer mountain bike race at Fowlmead. He wasn't far behind ACTiVs Steve Hambling who, whilst perhaps not quite the rider he was is still a pretty good bench mark locally. Jack was even second for a while but the distance perhaps got to him a bit towards the end. Always up for a ride, whether it be training or just a bit of fun, Jack is really beginning to reap the rewards of his commitment and enthusiasm. His improvement over the last couple of months has been little short of amazing and I am sure that his ride at Fowlmead will have made a few sit up and take notice. Liam White continues to plug away and get some pretty consistent results, and when he doesn't crash (which is mostly), Nick Kearney is showing signs of recovery and a return to full fitness after his broken elbow earlier in the year. Haven't seen so much of Ciaran O'Grady recently, but after a slow start he clawed his way up to fourth place in the Junior race at the South East Champs. Richard Wood
